Qemi is a responsible company and reliable partner. We aim to uphold this reputation in the future and are writing to inform you about the changes resulting from the implementation of the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The EUDR was officially published in the Official Journal of the European Union on June 29, 2023, and will come into effect on December 30, 2024. From this date onward, companies manufacturing any of their products in Europe or selling within the European Union must ensure that their supply chains are free from deforestation. This involves a due diligence obligation, requiring companies to verify that the goods they import or sell within the EU are not linked to deforestation. The affected products include, among others, soy, palm oil, wood, cocoa, coffee, and certain cattle products.
This particularly impacts our use of soybean oils and fatty acids, as we extensively use them in the production of defoamers, which will be subject to the EUDR, leading to  significant administrative and eventual cost implications.
Therefore, by December 30, 2024, we will offer a specific product range from EUDR-recognized products towards non-recognized raw materials like rapeseed oil and its derivatives.

Of course, these product alternatives require your approval, but what are the benefits of this transition for you? We offer a certain level of price stability, as the GMO-free certified soybean qualities we currently use are already more expensive than the alternative rapeseed oil qualities. A transition would not necessarily lead to a price increase.

We ensure that we work with partners that manufacture our products for sale in the EU conduct extensive GMO analyses on their plant-based raw materials to ensure GMOfree compliance according to EU 1829 / EU 1830. With the switch to rapeseed oil and its derivatives, potential GMO contamination will be largely reduced or avoided in the future.

Moreover, we are addressing an increasing allergen problem. While refined soybean oils or fatty acids are not currently classified as potentially allergenic in Europe, they are considered more critically and partly classified as potentially allergenic in other countries.

Please  contact us with your specific needs so we can review our product alternatives.
